Harlow MP welcomes cash boost for areas new homes

Epping Forest District Council is to receive £295,136 thanks to the Government's New Homes Bonus. The money, announced by Housing Minister Grant Shapps, is the final allocation of the New Homes Bonus which fulfills the Government's coalition agreement commitment to provide local authorities with real incentives to deliver housing growth.

The New Homes Bonus means that for each addition to the council's housing stock, including properties brought back into use, Harlow Council will receive match funding for the council tax paid for each of the next six years.

Mr Halfon said: "This is great news for Epping Forest District Council and for residents of the Harlow constituency villages - Hastingwood, Nazeing, Roydon, Sheering and Matching.

"The council will be able to use this money in whatever way it likes, and in particular to make the development more acceptable to local people."

The scheme will be administered by match funding the additional council tax potential from increases in effective housing stock, with an additional amount of £350 per annum for affordable homes, for the following six years.

Mr Halfon has been continuing to fight hard to get more housing money for Harlow people and has met with Local Government Minister Bob Neill on several occasions to press the case for extra funding for the town.
