Fall in town's unemployment figures is welcomed by Harlow MP

The latest unemployment figures which show a drop in the number of people without work in Harlow have been welcomed by Harlow MP Robert Halfon.

The statistics, published by the Office for National Statistics, show that the number of unemployed claimants in the Harlow constituency in January this year was 2,495 -  5.4 per cent of the economically active population aged 16 to 64.

The number of claimants is 346 lower than in January last year.

Mr Halfon said: "I am delighted that unemployment is falling in our town, with the latest figures, however there is still work to be done to help reduce the number of people who are out of work even further.

"That is why I back the Government's plan for 100,000 extra apprenticeships and lower business taxes.

"Also there is good news on income tax, as the Government will increase the threshold of the basic rate by £1,000 in April. This will save the average Harlow worker £170 a year."
